What is Healing?

The word Healing comes from the Old English Term ‘Hælan’ which means ‘Whole’. Healing is the process where one becomes ‘Whole and Complete’ in every way; where one lives in synchronicity with the Flow of Life and the Rhythm of the Universe.

When we touch or interact with anyone, with an attitude of love, it is an act of healing. Healing, literally, is the return to love. Love obliterates negative thought patterns and replaces them with higher frequencies. Being in the presence of a loving person, especially one that has a powerful intention to return you to your wholeness, will have wonderful and amazing effects on your well-being.

Who Needs Healing?

Contrary to popular belief, healing is not something that is needed for the ailing, sick and injured. Healing is an ongoing process. Healing is always available to us in abundance. Being Healthy is a natural state of being.

By nature, all of us have the innate ability to heal ourselves and thrive in life. When we bruise ourselves, the wound naturally heals in some time. But bandaging the wound in the right way would immensely enhance the healing process. Similarly, it is your birth-right to ‘Be at Peace’ at all times and live your life with total integrity. However, in times of need, as healers, we play the role of the bandage to enhance your healing and bring you to a state where you are once again at peace with your life.

When we live in a manner that does not completely resonate with the core of our being, the Universal Intelligence gives us a gentle reminder. Reminders initially come in the form of some emotional or Physical pain. But due to our own insensitivity and inertia, we ignore these signs simply because they are ‘bearable’ at that point in time. We unconsciously choose to suffer at different, deeper levels thereafter.

How often is it that we hear people say, “Oh! That is a part of my life now. I guess I have to live with it!”? When we choose to ‘live with’ certain aspects of our life, what we do not realize is that eventually, we make way for a major catastrophe and breakdown in our internal makeup. We ourselves pave the way to lose ourselves!

Our Lives are a series of experiences. Each experience comes with a purpose and a learning. By nature, an experience is neutral. It is our perception of it that renders it ‘Positive’ or ‘Negative’. It is upto us to either use our experiences as stepping stones to a more empowered life, or get trodden all over, with every passing day.

Look within! If you feel that You are Unhappy about a Certain ‘Aspect’ of your life…physical conditions, career, various relationships, choices/decisions, or any other aspect in your life…and if You feel that you would like to be at peace with regard to that aspect of your life, you would do well to get some Healing.

Realise that the unhappiness or pain is only indicative of the fact that you are not completely in sync with your core being. Healing would help you to understand the grander scheme of events and would help you flow through your own life in Peace and Calm!

 

How Healing Works?

When one feels immensely angry, we feel the blood rushing in our body and we tremble with rage. When one is very scared, we start to sweat, our feet go cold and the heart beats faster. In fact, whenever we feel any strong emotion with a lot of intensity, there is always a physical manifestation of it on our body. This is simply because there is an intricate link between our mind and body. And there is a constant communion that exists between the two.

Having said that, have you ever wondered what could be the influence of the millions of thoughts/emotions that come up within you, onto your physical body? What effect does a constantly nagging thought (attached to a negative emotion) have on you? If the intense emotions can instantly manifest as a sign in our physical body, perhaps the not-so-intense chronic emotions too would manifest, but not so instantly! Don’t you think?

As humans, we exist at many other levels apart from the physical body. However, in the context of healing, we talk mainly about four levels of existence where we are primarily affected – 

    • The Physical Body (the human body made of flesh and bones as we know it)
    • The Energy Body (the energy field that exists around us, also known as ‘The Aura’)
    • The Emotional Body (that part of our being that feels emotions)
    • The Thought Body (that part of us that constantly thinks – no matter what the emotion)

The densest of these is the ‘Physical Body’. And the subtlest is the ‘Thought Body’. The Bharatiya Culture very aptly talks of these bodies as 'Koshas’, and there are very specific references to Annamaya Kosha (the Physical Body), Pranamaya Kosha (the Energy Body), Manomaya Kosha (The Mind Body inclusive of Thoughts and Emotions) as the most basic levels of our existence. It is only when we have addressed the issues at these levels of our existence that we move onto the more subtle forms of our being – the Vignanmaya Kosha and the Anandamaya Kosha.

Just to illustrate how the dynamics work out, here is an example:
When we have a stream of positive refreshing thoughts at the level of the thought body , the emotional body too has very positive emotions to go with the thoughts. The energy body automatically supports the thought and emotion and we feel very high in energy and feel all charged up. When we feel so positive at all other levels of our being, it is hardly an effort to break into a smile or spread laughter all around from here on. We are seen as a very cheerful and light-hearted person. 
Similarly, when we have a stream of negative thoughts, we soon feel very depressive or angry (as the case may be), our energies and the vibes that we give out reflect a sense of dejection and physically we would feel very heavy and drained out and it would hardly be an effort to grumble or fly into a rage in this state.

What is interesting to note is that, any alteration – positive or negative, at ANY of the levels can influence all other levels of our existence. And, it can be reversed too by addressing the issue at ANY of the levels. Therefore, the healing given at any one level seeps into all other levels and makes us whole and healthy.
The Doctors of Medicine address our issues at the level of the physical body. Perhaps it wouldn’t be wrong to categorise Physiotherapists, Various Masseurs or even Yoga Instructors as healers at the level of the Physical Body. All of them work on our body in  different, unique ways and eventually work their way up into our energies, our emotions and our thoughts and influence them to change
for the better.

At the level of the Energy, one would find lots of Energy workers such as Reiki Healers, Pranic Healers and Crystal Healers. While working with the Energy body, one would definitely come across the term ‘Chakras’ (refer to our section on Energy Healing). The Chakras are vortices for the energy field that exist around us. And these healers work with various techniques to channel the flow of energy in and out of our chakras smoothly.

Working at the level of the Emotion and Thought, we usually find healers such as Psychologists,  Psychiatrists, Counselors, Psychotherapists, Hypnotherapists and the like. All of them usually go with the premise that the vagaries of the mind are the root behind all our problems – physical, mental, emotional or even social. And they usually use various techniques to heal our emotional and thought patterns in order to heal our entire being. Many Medical Practitioners across the globe realize the importance of healing the Thought and Emotional being of an individual in order for the healing to be complete. Hence, we often come across Post Operative counseling or rehabilitation programmes done to accelerate the effect of the healing done at the physical level.
