Do Past Lives Exist?

Perhaps after the perennial debate on the ‘Existence of God’, the existence of Past Lives might well be called the next most contested topic in today’s world. Volumes have been researched on and written for and against the existence of past lives. However, in this forum, it is not our endeavour to prove whether ‘Past Life’ as a concept is true or not! We leave it to the individuals to experience and decide for themselves whether or not to believe in it!

Rather, the focus of our efforts would be to use this as a therapeutic tool to resolve and heal issues. It would help immensely if one were to go through Past Life Regression keeping healing in focus. Skeptics could consider their regression as their own subconscious mind bringing to fore (metaphorically) deep-rooted thought-patterns that might be affecting their daily lives. We do not focus on what the individual perceives, but as therapists, we are more intent on how it is linked to their issue at hand.

However, having said this, past life regression therapy stands as a very powerful tool in healing a wide array of physical, emotional and spiritual issues. Eminent psychotherapists such as Dr. Brian Weiss and Dr. Michael Newton have spoken widely on how their practice has given them tangible resolutions in the world of Psychiatry and Psychology.

At Violet Hues, we have had brilliant results from past life regression therapy. Personally, we believe that all of us are souls on a journey that has been compartmentalized into various lives (read more on this in the section on The Journey of the Soul). And with this premise, we have ourselves learnt many great lessons to lead a better and more enriched life.

The Journey of the Soul

Where does this journey begin? Where does it end? How far have I come in this journey? Am I on track? These are some of the questions that have intrigued each of us at some point in time.

One of the most common misunderstandings about the journey of the soul is the assumption that the journey happens linearly across different lifetimes. This is far from the truth. All of us go through various experiences in life in order to learn specific lessons. It is with every lesson that we learn successfully, that we progress in the journey. In other words, by not learning what life is trying to teach us through each experience, we might live life after life, but may not really progress a single step in the real journey.

Aligning our sojourn with the soul (also known as the ‘spirit’) is what is called as the ‘Spiritual Journey’. Therefore, spirituality is not about religion, but about something much more universal!

So what is this Spiritual Journey all about?

All of creation originated from an infinitely potent pool of energy. The moment we talk of an energy-body, we know that there has to be a frequency of vibration to it. The frequency of vibration of this primordial energy mass resonates with the frequency of Love. And hence it is said, “We are all Embodiments of Love”.

However, we could not appreciate this love in totality, because we were surrounded by nothing but love. This is similar to how perhaps a person who has never seen starvation may not really know the value of the food on his plate until he has to go hungry for days. Similarly, in order to understand that our true nature is love alone, we needed to go through an elaborate setup where we experience the various shades of the lack of love as well.

Our earth is considered one of the great stages where we incarnate in order to finish these lessons on love. Therefore, the soul plans out a variety of lives with various experiences to go through (some seemingly positive and some seemingly negative) only to experience various shades of what is and what is not love.

Souls come together and plan the kind of interactions that can help them learn these lessons, including the precise duration of the 'relationships' they have decided to experience.

For eg: Consider ‘low self esteem/self worth’ as one shade of the ‘lack of love’ that teaches the soul what it is to love oneself. In order to understand self esteem to the fullest extent, the soul might plan out experiences or take on an appropriate body during the lifetime to feel low self worth and self esteem. When the soul has understood what it is like to feel low self esteem and also goes through the consequences of it, the soul realizes that it is not in its true nature to feel ‘low’. Eventually, the next lesson planned might be that of ‘Pride and haughtiness’ which can be considered as an extreme sense of self-love. Again when it realizes that it is not its true nature to feel haughty as well, it has moved closer to the objective of knowing what it is to feel healthy self worth and esteem.

Thus, the soul learns through a method of negation, what it truly is. And when it realizes that it is fundamentally made up of nothing but Love, the journey is deemed to have been completed! This soul, having reached a state of Self-realisation may now choose to merge with the primordial universal pool of consciousness. Except, this merger would be with a state of complete awareness of its absolute nature - after having experienced all that it is and all that it isn’t through an elaborate journey.

What is PLRT?

All of us have enough “drama” in our lives already! There really is no need to see a Past Life just to know what other “dramas” we have been through in the past. How then does a Past Life regression help? Well, one has to keep in mind that just regressing to a past life does not necessarily mean healing. In fact at times it may provide us more reasons to feel miserable in the present. Therefore, it is very important to couple the regression with appropriate therapy.

In a therapeutic setting, we visit the past life that is unhealed/unresolved and is probably influencing the present. The purpose of the therapy would be to complete unfinished lessons from the past, heal unresolved issues and make your present absolutely uninhibited. Once the issue at hand is no longer being influenced by the energies of the past, it can be looked at from a new perspective and dealt with.

How it Heals?

In Regression Therapy, we use a wide variety of modalities to heal the issue. However, this section attempts to bring to focus some of the major modalities that are highly effective in the successful completion of a PLRT.

Soul-plan

As we have already discussed in the section on ‘Journey of the Soul’ (hyperlink), every soul is on a carefully planned and monitored journey. Ergo the soul has a distinct plan intended to finish appropriate experiences on the spiritual path.

It is essential to know that every ‘plan’ is designed by the soul itself. This can be compared to how a driver plans out the exact route, the number of halts, the landmarks to cross and also the important supplies required, even before embarking on a long drive. The Soul also plans its Spiritual Journey in a similar manner. If a certain ‘landmark’ in the soul’s journey requires another soul to help out, the soul would request a soul-mate to come along and play the specific role in order to reach the ‘landmark’. If there is a ‘halt’ meant to happen the soul would plan a standstill in life, so that it can harness its inner strength and assess its journey. If ‘refueling’ is due, the soul would plan a meeting with some other soul who would be in a position to empower it spiritually.

Understanding the Soul-Plan helps know if a particular experience one is going through, is meant to happen for a certain reason or not. In the case one has diverted from his original plan, through PLRT, we can help him get back on track and speed ahead on the highway.

Lessons/ending Karmic cycles

At times we are meant to go through some painful experience only to obtain certain learning. However, when the individual is very subjectively involved with such an experience with another soul, he is not able to look at the experience from the perspective of soul-learning. He is very affected by the suffering and wants to return the energies/emotions that have been received from that soul. And so, in a subsequent life, the ‘action’ repeats with a reversal of roles. This can go on and on endlessly, until one of them decides to snap out of the loop.

The knowledge of why at all the painful experience had to happen in the first place, would help the soul sojourn without any suffering thereafter. Once the lesson is understood or brought to awareness, one is able to release oneself from the karmic cycle.

Often pain may be inevitable, but suffering is a choice. When a couple understand the Karmic basis for giving birth to a ‘special’ child, they no longer ‘suffer the strain’ of nurturing the child. They are able to go through their role in peace. Therefore, karma is not really the suffering involved, but is the learning behind the experience. Not grasping the learning entails suffering.

Releasing imprints

Going through painful experiences over and over again causes certain imprints to be formed – physically, emotionally and spiritually. These are like scars in the mind and soul. When a soul has had repeated negative interactions with other souls, and when the same two souls meet in later lives, these past imprints might get triggered. How often have we seen an apparent stranger and felt an instant aversion towards him, even though we have not had any negative interaction with him consciously? In other scheme of events, at certain specific situations, there could be more intense triggers where imprints of past negative experiences might even manifest as certain phobias or certain tendencies (such as stammering, air sickness, etc) or even disease conditions.

Imprints need not always be negative in nature. We might have definitely come across people towards whom we have had an instant attraction/liking as well! These too are positive imprints coming from the Past Lives. Positive Imprints are acceptable as long as they do not interfere with our Life Plan and what we want. During the course of therapy, we work on eliminating from the root, the imprints that affect us negatively.

Re-scripting

Every Life is planned. What happens when a soul deviates from the plan and fails to obtain the learnings due? Those lessons remain ‘pending’. In a subsequent life, the soul plans out a more rigorous life that comes as a reminder to finish the pending lessons.

Have you ever felt at some point in your life, “Why does this keep happening to me every time?” The moment we notice a repetitive pattern in our lives, we need to sit up and take notice. When we have missed learning something that we were meant to learn, the lesson persists.

‘Rescripting’ is a powerful tool to align ourselves with the soul-plan and go through past experiences differently – this time keeping the learning in focus! When the learning is obtained, the soul no longer feels the need to go through similar experiences even in the current life. It decides to move on!

Connecting to the Higher Self

Connecting to one’s Higher Self is like getting in touch with the purest and most potent part of the soul. It is an extremely elevating session that provides very subjective guidance on a variety of issues that one is seeking to resolve.

This session is also a window for the soul to connect to various other Divine Masters, Spirit Guides, Angelic Beings and other Celestial Beings who are in a position to show light to the soul.
