The World's Most-Beautiful Woman

28/8/2013

When she was in high school, Lizzie Velasquez was dubbed "The World's Ugliest Woman" in an 8-second-long YouTube video. Born with a medical condition so rare that just two other people in the world are thought to have it, Velasquez has no adipose tissue and cannot create muscle, store energy, or gain weight. She has zero percent body fat and weighs just 60 pounds.

In the comments on YouTube, viewers called her "it" and "monster" and encouraged her to kill herself. Instead, Velasquez set four goals: To become a motivational speaker, to publish a book, to graduate college, and to build a family and a career for herself.

Now 23 years old, she's been a motivational speaker for seven years and has given more than 200 workshops on embracing uniqueness, dealing with bullies, and overcoming obstacles. She's a senior majoring in Communications at Texas State University in San Marcos, where she lives with her best friend. Her first book, "Lizzie Beautiful," came out in 2010 winning the hearts of many around the world and her second, "Be Beautiful, Be You," was published earlier September and In 2013 she's hoping to write her third book.

"The stares are what I'm really dealing with in public right now," she told Dr. Drew Pinsky in an interview on CNN's Headline News. But I think I'm getting to the point where... instead of sitting by and watching people judge me, I'm starting to want to go up to these people and introduce myself or give them my card and say, 'Hi, I'mLizzie. Maybe you should stop staring and start learning'."

Velasquez was born in San Antonio, Texas; she was four weeks premature and weighed just 2 pounds, 10 ounces. "They told us they had no idea how she could have survived," her mother, Rita, 45, told the Daily Mail. "We had to buy doll's clothes from the toy store because baby clothes were too big." Doctors warned Rita and her husband, Lupe, that their oldest child would never be able to walk or talk, let alone live a normal life. (Her two younger siblings were not affected by the syndrome.)

Instead, she has thrived. Her internal organs, brain, and bones developed normally, though her body is tiny. Since she has no fatty tissue in which to store nutrients, she has to eat every 15 to 20 minutes to have enough energy to get through the day. One brown eye started clouding over when she was 4 years old, and now she's blind in that eye and has only limited sight in the other.

How easy is it to complain and feel like a victim? Lizzie wouldn't have done much if she were to simply complain and crib. Taking charge of our life requires courage. It takes a great deal of Spiritual Valour to decide that YOU alone would decide how your life turns out to be...not those around, not your circumstances...

Lizzie Velasquez is still titled the "World's Ugliest Woman". But my eyes perceive a tremendous beauty about her that is infectious!

The 100th Monkey (based on true findings)

The Japanese monkey, Macaca fuscata, had been observed in the wild for a period of over 30 years.

In 1952, on the island of Koshima, scientists were providing monkeys with sweet potatoes dropped in the sand. The monkey liked the taste of the raw sweet potatoes, but they found the dirt unpleasant.

An 18-month-old female named Imo found she could solve the problem by washing the potatoes in a nearby stream. She taught this trick to her mother. Her playmates also learned this new way and they taught their mothers too.

This cultural innovation was gradually picked up by various monkeys before the eyes of the scientists. Between 1952 and 1958 all the young monkeys learned to wash the sandy sweet potatoes to make them more palatable. Only the adults who imitated their children learned this social improvement. Other adults kept eating the dirty sweet potatoes.

Then something startling took place. In the autumn of 1958, a certain number of Koshima monkeys were washing sweet potatoes -- the exact number is not known. Let us suppose that when the sun rose one morning there were 99 monkeys on Koshima Island who had learned to wash their sweet potatoes. Let's further suppose that later that morning, the hundredth monkey learned to wash potatoes.

THEN IT HAPPENED!

By that evening almost every monkey in the tribe was washing sweet potatoes before eating them. The added energy of this hundredth monkey somehow created an ideological breakthrough!
The scientists were even more surprised to see that the knowledge of washing sweet potatoes before eating them, then jumped over the sea. Colonies of monkeys living on other islands and the mainland troop of monkeys at Takasakiyama intuitively began washing their sweet potatoes before eating them. There was no way any monkey could have migrated across the sea to the other islands and tell them of this new technique. And yet overnight, the monkeys on all neighbouring islands had also learned how to wash the sweet potatoes before eating them.

This was quite a revelation to the scientists because it somehow proved to them that there was a deeper connection between the subconscious of all these monkeys. And when some sort of a critical mass had been achieved, the knowledge just seemed to sink into the collective consciousness and become common knowledge!

The exact number may vary. Scientists could not accurately ascertain what the critical number was for these monkeys. But they knew that the phenomenon was real and called it the "Hundredth Monkey Effect."

They documented that when a limited number of people believe or know something, it remains the conscious property of these individuals. But there is a point at which if only one more person tunes in to this knowledge or awareness, it suddenly seems to become part of the collective consciousness. Then people can almost instinctively tune into this awareness and pick up the knowledge.

Ken Keyes, Jr. in his book "The hundredth monkey" says :
We are all connected. Carl Jung called it the 'collective unconscious'.
The 100th Monkey effect points out our power and responsibility as individuals. You do not have to wait until others open their hearts. Instead you could begin doing things now that are so desperately needed for the conscious unfolding of your life — and the survival of our species. You will begin to discover the miracle of your full potential as a human being. Your energy can tip the scales when you add it to thousands of others' — merging, slowly raising our collective consciousness to the point of power when it makes the all-important difference!
This survival energy spreads far beyond those involved and touches every life on Earth!
The change in you is already taking place!
